9 Best Photo-Ops Near Georgia Tech

One of the biggest perks of attending Georgia Tech is living in the center of Atlanta, surrounded by unique restaurants, exhibits, activities and murals.

As a fellow Georgia Tech student, I’m constantly on the lookout for fresh spots in Midtown where my friends and I can capture memorable photos without straying too far from campus.

Below are some of my preferred Instagram-worthy locations just a quick drive away from campus:

Top 9 Photo-Ops in Midtown

There’s nothing better than natural lighting to make your photos pop. Check out these spots for some of the most breathtaking outdoor photo backdrops. 

1. Atlanta Botanical Gardens

Location: 1345 Piedmont Ave NE 

Atlanta Botanical Gardens is one of my favorite spots in Atlanta. Here you’ll find thousands of plants and flowers arranged beautifully into a calm and picturesque scene. Day or night, the tranquil walking paths provide a lush backdrop for your photos and videos any time of year!

Pro tip: During the winter months, see the Garden decorated with holiday lights at night.  

2. Krog Street Tunnel

Location: 1 Krog St NE

Krog Street Tunnel is one of the most unique backdrops you’ll find in Atlanta. The tunnel’s artwork and graffiti offer a one of a kind, colorful backdrop for solo or group shots. This tunnel is also near Krog Street Market and the Beltline, other outdoor areas that are great for both photo and video content. 

3. Ponce City Market Rooftop

Location: 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE 

For views of Atlanta, food, shopping and outdoor carnival games, stop by Ponce City Market for the day. The highlight of this bustling shopping center and food hall is without a doubt the Rooftop that overlooks Midtown and the city of Atlanta, a great backdrop for a photoshoot of any occasion.

Cafes 

In my opinion, nothing beats a cozy cafe with good vibes and delicious coffee. Here are some of the best coffee shops near Georgia Tech with aesthetic interiors. 

4. Ding Tea

Location: 1000 Northside Dr NW #900

Ding Tea is a Taiwanese Tea House serving deliciously crafted authentic tea. The highlight of this cafe is the large pink and white flower wall that makes an ideal backdrop for Instagram photos. 

5. One Zo

For a boba spot with Barbie pink flare, head over to One Zo. This cute cafe is covered in all things pink, serving homemade tapioca and flavor-packed teas. This cafe is every pink-lover’s dream. 

6. Cafe Comma

For a minimalist clean backdrop to your photos, try Cafe Comma. The calming atmosphere doubles as both a great place for pictures and studying. They also offer a menu of unique coffees including Charcoal Coconut and Black Sesame Cream.

7. The Illuminarium

The Illuminarium is a cinematic experience that fully immerses you into the world of art through high tech animation and projections. Not only is this a fun exhibit to tour in your free time, the projected animation and art make for a cool photo backdrop. 

8. Georgia Aquarium

Location: 225 Baker St NW

The Georgia Aquarium is one of the best aquariums in the world, housing unique exhibits and animals such as beluga whales, whale sharks and more. These exhibits make neat backdrops for photos with an underwater feel.  

9. High Museum of Art

Standing as the leading art museum in the southeastern United States, The High Museum of Art features American, European and African pieces. This artwork, and even the museum itself with its lively white exterior, gives a creative aesthetic for your photos.
